OBS in Pulau Ubin

OBS? otherwise known for Outward Bound Of Singapore,
A 5 days 4 night camp for leaders at pulau ubin. Each school was given around 32 slot for the chosen student leaders to attend(e.g. Student councillor, CCA leaders, Camp leaders etc..) well that was for my case, where the leaders must be chosen by the teachers.

I am not anticipating to OBS as I'm currently typing out my entry on the bus,

To begin with,
I AM STILL SICK ;-( arghh such bad luck sighh, i hope that I am recovering, I did brought my medication along in case, i pray that my stay in OBS wouldn't make my health any worse..

The second reason that came to my mind are "INSECTS", just the thoughts of those creature I literary want to KILL myself like literally, kill me alive man..gosh I wonder how am i going to survive when i couldn't even take it for a moment, not even mentioning i have to last for 5 days, I shall say my prayers first, I hope i won't die halfway.

Among these ridiculous reasons i have, there is still something that is making me feeling anticipating towards this camp, probably... meeting my new mate's, i have so much wonder in my mind, what type of person will i meet, and who are these people that might make a impact in my life, staying with these people for five days? will everything pass smoothly? i seriously don't know, there are so many things coming into my mind now,
who are these 16 people i going to meet?
well, for now, i shouldn't expect too much, as i fear that too much expectation may turns out to be a disappointment.
I do wish it to be a memorable experience, memory for me instead of a torturing one... Having a positive mindset will definitely allow me to preserve throughout the camp! i believe that i can do it and i will. Not forgetting that, when i return back from my camp it is common test week, i shall cross my fingers and pray hard that i would not fail any of my subjects !! so i won't end up crying again for my failing subjects..

"To serve, To strive and Not to yield"

5 days of living a life without my mobile phone, I finally got them return back to me on the last day of the camp after our emotional goodbyes, i didn't felt it was a necessity having my phone by my side throughout the camp. I realize that i have lost a distraction that might have prevent me from getting along together with my watch, instead i learnt many things; knowledge, did million of things i never thought i could accomplish; create bonds that i felt gratitude for.

To sum up my whole trip at Pulau Ubin, it was one of the best accomplishment as well as the most awesome camp in my entire 15 years of life living in Singapore.

" Expect the Unexpected. "
what my instructor Lih Yin taught me, these few words, is deeply crave in my heart, i can never forget them till now...Thinking back,
it is certainly one of the most memorable; unforgettable camp, the 16 people who i met, is already part of the few important people in my life now, they have influence me with lot of stuff i'm truly thankful for. #Cousteau

Lets start with my mobile phone topic again haha,
when i first got it back, I was kinda confused, i totally lost the touch of how to use a phone, and everything seems so new to me.
[ feeling so embarrassed ]

I mean imaging days without social network? I am pretty amaze at myself, and proud , for being able to survive days without my phone, it is part of one of my greatest accomplishment haha, as majority should know that, teenagers nowadays can't live without their phones!
Actually, I didn't miss my phone or anything during these past five days, I guess that was probably because I had a lot of fun and was too tired,
However, what was going through on my mind when i gotten my phone back was I wanted to update my blog ASAP, i really want to share my wonderful experience with my readers, so excited hehe!!

As for day 1, our watch didn't start off pretty well as much as we expected we would, along the way we had disagreement with one another, nevertheless we overcome these problems and became closer with each other than before.
Recollecting them, those times were great moments..

we commenced with the usual team building games all leaders would do when trying to let our juniors fit into the club.

One of the activity that left me the deepest impression from day one was the team building game with the use of a rope, we needed to work together to untie the ropes, it wasn't a easy task because we didn't try to understand one another and each individuals had their own idea of how to untie the ropes but through these learning, we manage to finish the activity within 15-20 minutes.
Why am i sharing this? I learnt that communication is really important, it is the first step to understand one another, and it is also important to listen; to lead others, if everyone refuses and persist in doing things their way, we will more uncompleted jobs to complete.

Activities from morning till the sun starts to settle down, in an blink of an eye,
it was time for dinner, are you guys curious in how did we even cooked or what we ate? i hope you are haha!

Well, as soon as our watch finish taking part in all the team building activities, we arrive at one of the shelter campsite, and we separate into two teams,
team one was suppose to go collect some cooking utensils for cooking, while my team was to go and get our food which is suppose to last us for the whole five days.
There was many types of caned food, which kinda surprised me, luckily they were all different type of caned food, I mean can u imagine, cooking at least 12 tin of cans every single day (( if they were the same cans )) HAHA, just the thoughts of eating the same old stuff everyday will destroy my stomach and tongue omgg..

So, we did outdoor cooking, it was the very first time in my life i did outdoor cooking i think? (( wait... is BBQ counted as outdoor cooking? )).. Anyway! outdoor cooking has never once crossed my mind until when i was in OBS, we cooked Campbell soup, corn, salmon tuna, mushrooms and rice (( although they were uncooked rice)) Still, to me, it is one of the most delicious rice I have ever eaten, because it was cooked by us, #Cousteau

and can you believe that I was one of the food I/C in charge of everyone's meal? 16 of us! I was quite confused at first because we had to cook a large amount of food, but we manage through HAHA, GOOD JOB !

How did we manage to cook?
Well, we used mass tins, solid fuel, and the usual cooking equipment a like pot, the type of pot they provide there, is in fact very different compared to the ones we have at home for cooking, their pot wasn't the shiny type material and we had to cover the bottom of the pot with toothpastes to prevent it from burning, I had a great time cooking even though we took hours to cook for each meal

The next day, we begin with our " 3days2night kayaking journey " yes, 3days2night you didn't see anything wrongly.
FIRST AND FOREMOST ! CAN YOU IMAGINE NOT BATHING FOR FREAKING 2DAYS !
OMG I COULDN'T BUT I DID, IT WAS THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE, LIKE OMG, I DIDN'T BATH FOR 2 DAYS! SO DISGUSTING EWWW..
i usually bath twice a day, when i heard i couldn't bath for two whole days i wanted to faint already. Till today, not bathing for two days seems like the worst memory in my life..

The first day of kayaking, we were kayaking at the sea, and settled down when we reach our campsite of the day,
the next following day, we were kayaking at the mangrove, paddling in the low tide rivers with branches, walking through the slippery and muddy floor, moving our kayak boats and paddles,
we paddle and paddle until we reach the big sea that was so wavy and windy, and settle down at a sandy beach campsite.
On the last day of Kayaking, we kayaked 11km again, it was really tiring but our determination together as #Camp2Delta, made the greatest accomplishment in our whole life, it is unquestionably the most toughest memorable experience, the 3 watches experience together.
As we were paddling in the ocean, with a goal in our mind
" returning back to our OBS campsite. "
Halfway through i really felt like giving up, it was really tough and tiring, my arms was aching really badly, and my team was one of the last few, who was behind the back, but then i thought, if i give up here, what about the other 2 team mates behind me? i won't be able to set a good example as a leader if i chosen to give up here.

" Cheering." One of my team mates and i thought,
i begin with my " 1 2 3, 3 2 1." rhythm cheer, to my surprise..
IT WORK ! and my arms suddenly felt lighter, to my disbelief, we became one of the top fastest kayaking boat, everyone was kinda astonished as well.
From this experience, i learn " Never to Give up." Yes it is a common quote, until you been in the situation i've gone through, it is the best quote in life.
Slowly, my cheer became one of the inspiring cheer i think HAHA, till today my OBS group has been going on and on about my cheer, because through out the whole paddling process, i never stopped cheering no matter how thirsty i felt.
i can never forget the last day of kayaking as it is also one of the most terrifying experience, in the mist of kayaking, we were informed a heavy storm is going to come real fast, we were hesitating and indecisive in whether if we should continue or find a nearby campsite to camp tonight...
Then again, all of #Camp2Delta, including me, didn't wanted to stop, we wanted to BATH

After coming so far, we don't want to give up halfway, we decided to work towards our goal even if it means that our arms will break and we have to paddle through the heavy and dangerous sea, we desperately had to complete our goal.
The sea was like a hungry monster, it was the type of sea that you see in DRAMA, that can capsize a boat and i was experiencing it in real life,
Paddling through the heavy storm, i had countless of absurd thoughts in my mind like
" Will i die? "
" Can i survive this heavy stormy dangerous sea? "
" I will be a survivor."
" I mustn't give up."
" I want to share this scary yet memorable expedition with everyone."
And i'm proud to say, i am a SURVIVOR !
All of us leaders, was cheering for one another, although we were all scared.

Till today, it still leave as a big part of my precious memory, because these five days I been through so many things, accomplished goals I could never imagine i would do in life,  so many heartfelt things i did together with my watches and other watches,
definitely a unforgettable memory.

Thank you guys for all the superb and fantastic time together !

Goodbyes are beyond doubt heart breaking, but through these break up,
we'll learnt to be more appreciative of what we have
and become less unreasonable,
become a more caring person of others.
Proud to be a OBS alumni.
